Principals' Perceptions about Alternate Route Programs in Rural Areas

Author(s): Devon Brenner

Abstract:

Rural schools often struggle to fill open positions. Rural communities grapple with negative perceptions of rural communities, small populations, and limited resources.  Alternate route teacher education programs may allow rural communities to “grow your own” new teachers, however, rural principals may have concerns about the preparation provided by alternate route programs.
