Rosângela Yazbec Sebba, a professor of piano and music theory in Mississippi State’s Department of Music, is being recognized for excellence in teaching and collegial leadership as a recipient of the university’s 2024 John Grisham Master Teacher Award.

Department Head of Music Daniel Stevens notes, “Within the past academic year, Dr. Sebba has been recognized as the 2023 Steinway Educator of the Year and the 2023 Mississippi Music Teachers Association Outstanding Teacher of the Year. She has led MSU’s initiative to become an All-Steinway School and has inspired award-winning, peer-reviewed research and creative activity from applied piano students in her studio. Her excellent work serves as a model for peer faculty within the Department of Music, and her reputation as a Steinway Artist places her in the top tier of celebrated faculty in our nation.”

Sebba serves as vice president for Pre-College Evaluations of the Mississippi Music Teachers Association and founded MSU’s Community Music School.

Her research, circulated worldwide via the compact disc recordings “Eight Sonatinas and the Sonata for Piano Solo by M. Camargo Guarnieri” and “Milennia Musicae Quartet,” showcases Sebba as an authority on Brazilian music as well as an advocate of intriguing twentieth- and twenty-first century aural art.
