CREATE Math

Are you a current or an aspiring math educator with an interest in embodied learning?

We invite local female math teachers and MSU female pre-service math teachers to participate in CREATE Math, an initiative that facilitates mentoring relationships while providing professional learning opportunities focused on embodied approaches to math education.

Cultivating Rehumanized Embodied Approaches To Education, or CREATE Math, is led by Dr. Liza Bondurant, an associate professor of secondary mathematics education at Mississippi State. It is funded by the Mathematical Association of America and the Tensor Foundation.

CREATE Math aims to:

  • Introduce aspiring and current mathematics educators to use embodied cognition approaches for mathematics teaching and learning, fostering practices that can rehumanize mathematics education.
  • Facilitate mentoring relationships among mathematics educators.
  • Amplify the work of women mathematics education researchers by promoting their research and teaching practices.

The program kicks off in fall 2025 and will continue through spring 2026. It includes a speaker series and collaborative activities that will help current and future math educators implement embodied cognition activities in their own classrooms.

Participant Support

There is no cost to participate in the program. Participants receive a stipend and materials for attending meetings, creating activities and sharing their embodied math activities.
