2018 research forum

STARKVILLE, Miss – Registration comes to a close April 8, 2019, for the College of Education’s 12th Annual Research Forum, Virtual Reality: Opportunities for Educational Research.

Attendees of the forum will hear from keynote speaker Vince Jordan, CEO and Founder of Lobaki, Inc. Jordan heads up the company as a hands-on executive involved in all aspects of the business from client presentations, VR Experience development and customer delivery. Over the 41 years of his professional experience, he has pushed technology to the limits to improve lives. Jordan’s presentation is titled “Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality – what is it and how do we use it now?” Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are still so new that few people understand precisely what they are, what state of the art is, what are the practical uses and what is available today.

Topics covered during the session include the differences between VR & AR, how they are being used in industrial training, design and field work; practical applications in the education sector and health care industry; and why this is a critical time for the VR & AR industry to be expertly managed and curated as early exploration is being done in all of these sectors. Discussions will also take place on how VR & AR workforce development is being accomplished in Mississippi and what resources are regionally available to allow businesses and educators to get hands-on experiences with this technology.

Guests will be treated to a welcome by Dean Richard Blackbourn and performances by Department of Music students, as well as associate professor of music Dr. Jason Baker. Undergraduate and graduate students who conducted faculty-guided research projects throughout the academic year are encouraged to showcase their findings through the forum’s annual poster competition, which will be judged at the beginning of the day. Winners of the competition will be announced at the closing of the forum.
