MSU Patterson Scholars give books to local elementary students as part of Personal Reading Stylist initiative
James Patterson Teacher Education Scholars in Mississippi State’s College of Education give personally selected books to third grade students at Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District’s Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary School. As part of MSU’s Personal Reading Stylist program, the scholars work one-on-one with students to learn about their interests and reading habits and then carefully choose a book specifically for each student. Pictured with the scholars and students are, from left, front row, Third-Grade Assistant Principal Mandy Scarpulla; back row, second from right, Endowed Professor of Elementary Education Kristin Javorsky; and right, Principal Ra’Mon Forbes.
