Impact on P-12 Learning and Development

CAEP Impact Measure 1

The Mississippi Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) provides insights into the impact of Mississippi State University (MSU) College of Education (COE) graduates on the learning and development of P-12 students. This interoperable data system securely supports research and analysis by linking early childhood, K-12, postsecondary education, and workforce data. The SLDS is managed by the National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center (NSPARC), a research unit of Mississippi State University.

Graduates of MSU COE’s undergraduate and alternate route teacher education programs who began teaching in Mississippi public schools the year after graduation are matched to data from 18 statewide assessments administered by the Mississippi Department of Education. These assessments include the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) for Grades 3–8 in English Language Arts, Math, and Science, as well as high school End-of-Course exams in Algebra I, U.S. History, Biology, and English II. This matching process helps measure the impact of teacher preparation on P-12 student achievement.

In addition, the SLDS incorporates comparison data from the 14 Mississippi Education Preparation Providers (EPPs), which contribute statewide teacher preparation data. Data from the Mississippi Public School System are also used for broader analysis.

The results are disaggregated by program type, traditional or alternate route, and are available at the link above.
