1. Keep all receipts from NBPTS and canceled checks. File these until you receive your scores and notification letter from NBPTS which usually come in late Nov. or Dec. of the year you went through the process.
2. Take the notification letter which reads,
Congratulations...” or “Your scores do not indicate you have received...”
to your Superintendent with all your receipts. Make copies of all
these documents for yourself.
3. The Superintendent must:
providing:
(A) your Social Security number
(B) a copy of your Master Teacher Certificate, when available, and
a copy of the notification letter. (The certificate
usually comes later, not with the notification letter.)
(C) copy of receipts from NBPTS of the $2,000 invested, or the amount
you invested minus any subsidy you received.
(D) percent of teacher’s time on district personnel report
(E) request of funds to pay the process cost and salary supplement,
if warranted.
4. Reimbursement will be made to the school district. They in turn transfer this to the teacher. Reimbursement of the $2,000 process fee is given one time only from the MDOE. Do not expect to receive the money until January due to paperwork involved. Retake fees are not reimbursed by the MDOE.
5. The $6,000 salary supplement is awarded to teachers who become
National Board Certified,
who have a valid teacher’s license and are assigned to an instructional
area of work as defined
by the MDOE equivalent of a minimum of three normal periods per school
day. The teacher
must be reported as 100 percent on the district personnel report for
the school year in which the
supplement is being requested. The $6,000 salary supplement will
be prorated based on district
time reported that is less than 100%.
