Teacher Education for the Reading-Writing Connection

Author(s): Devon Brenner

Abstract:

Reading and writing are interrelated processes. Teachers should teach both reading and writing independently and should be able to foster the reading-writing connection. However, teachers are generally better prepared to teach reading than writing and teacher education may not always prepare teachers for the teaching of writing. This chapter summarizes current research on preparing teachers for the reading-writing connection.
