Function:
The Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education at Mississippi State University invites applications/nominations for the position of Professor and Department Head. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position. The department head provides leadership for a large department offering bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees and is responsible for budgetary actions, program development, personnel management and evaluation, and providing quality services to the clientele of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate from an accredited university in one of the Curriculum and Instruction department program areas is required; must qualify for tenure and the rank of professor; a demonstrated record of administrative experience at the program director level or above; a record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research and service; success in securing external funding; membership and leadership in applicable professional societies, the ability to communicate and work effectively with others; and a commitment to working with a diverse population of students and faculty. The selected candidate must have an appropriate understanding of all sub-disciplines and method of inquiry represented in the department. Familiarity with NCATE accreditation standards is necessary.

Department: Instructional Systems and Workforce Development
Function:
The Department Head provides academic and administrative leadership for a department of approximately 20 faculty and staff and more than 450 students. In addition to providing quality service to the clientele of the department, the Department Head is responsible for budgetary actions, program development, and personnel management and evaluation. The Department Head will promote a positive environment which stimulates teaching, research, and service. The primary goals of the Department Head are to provide leadership for departmental programs and to assist faculty in meeting goals associated with instruction, scholarly activities, and service.
Faculty support: Recruit and retain a diverse faculty from peer institutions across the country; coordinate and evaluate faculty workload; mentor faculty through the promotion and tenure process; evaluate faculty performance for promotion, tenure, salary increases, and dismissals; support continuing professional development of faculty.
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate with appropriate experience in one of the department's areas of specialization (Information Technology Services, Business Teacher Education, Industrial Technology; Industrial/Technical Teacher Education, Instructional Systems, and Workforce Development) from an accredited university or college; a record of excellence in teaching, scholarly achievement in research, and recognized professional service at the national level; the ability to communicate and work effectively with others; a commitment to working with a diverse population of students and faculty; success in securing and administering external funding; and, familiarity with accreditation standards and processes (ISTE, NAIT, NABTE, AECT, AACTE, and NCATE). Assistant/Associate Professor (Requisition # 5507)
Department: Instructional Systems and Workforce Development
Description:
The Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development is recognized as the leader in Mississippi in the preparation, development, and continuing education of persons in the area of technology and education. The department offers three undergraduate degrees in Industrial Technology, Information Technology Services, and Technology Teacher Education. At the graduate level, the department offers master's, specialist, and doctoral degrees. Graduate programs include Instructional Systems and Workforce Development, Instructional Technology, Technology, and Workforce Development Education. The State Department of Education and the Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development have various on-going relationships that strengthen the instructional technology abilities of the populace. The department within the College of Education is accredited by the National Council on Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.
Responsibilities
This position requires one to teach in the Department of Instructional Systems and Workforce Development in the areas of Instructional Technology and Technology Teacher Education and to teach graduate level courses in instructional design and educational technology. The person must supervise business technology teacher education interns, engage in curriculum development and revision, develop new courses aligned with INTASC, NCATE and other appropriate standards, develop and maintain an ongoing program of national scholarly research related to instructional design and educational technology, and develop and submit research proposals to appropriate national agencies and foundations. Advising undergraduate and graduate students and supervising the development and completion of master's and educational specialist theses and doctoral dissertations are required. Providing appropriate service at the departmental, college, university, community, state and national levels to enhance the field of technology is also a major requirement of this position. Furthermore, this person must engage in active service in professional associations, and work closely with the Mississippi Department of Education. Finally, this person must participate with other faculty to achieve common goals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum
- Earned doctorate in educational technology or closely related field
- Evidence of professional scholarship, demonstrating an established research agenda and ability to secure funding for research activities ABD candidates will not be considered.
- For appointment as Associate Professor, candidate must have a demonstrated record of scholarly research publications and must have consistently demonstrated an ability to perform at a satisfactory level in teaching, research, and service; and excels in at least one of these areas. Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Criteria established in the departmental promotion and tenure guidelines for rank of associate professor will apply.

Department Profile: The Department of Leadership and Foundations is one of six departments in the College of Education, serving a large number of graduate students with Master's, Specialist, and Doctoral degree programs in p-12 educational administration and supervision, community college leadership, and education foundations. In addition, educational foundation courses are offered for undergraduate students who are primarily preparing for entry level education careers.
Position Function: Full-time, nine-month, tenure track position in Educational Leadership beginning 08/15/2011 in the Department of Leadership and Foundations in the College of Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Teach a variety of assigned courses in Educational Administration and Supervision, and Educational Foundations;Recruit, advise and mentor graduate students; Engage in curriculum revision and development; Chair dissertation students' dissertation research and advise master's and doctoral students.
