60 Graduate Credit Hours CurriculumThe College Counseling program blends the mental health counseling training (assessment, diagnosis and treatment) and a solid foundation in student affairs (student development theory, legal and ethical issues) with prevention strategies, assessment and counseling interventions specific to college students. Students receive a solid counseling background in a CACREP accredited program. There is a long-standing commitment from and connection with the Division of Student Affairs at Mississippi State University. This organization provides full-time professional students affairs practitioners who serve as adjunct faculty members, and the opportunities for practicum, internship and assistantship experience. Our M.S. graduates are prepared to serve in a variety of professional positions that blend aspects of both licensed professional mental health counseling and student affairs. Graduates are prepared to work in diverse. Graduates may work in any number of programs offered within 2 and 4 year colleges and universities, such as, Counseling and Mental Health, Prevention, Health Education, Sexual Assault/Violence, Alcohol and Drug Education and Counseling, ADA/Disabilities, Student Support, International Student Support, Testing, Career Planning, College Success, Displaced Homemaker, Single Parent, Academic Counseling, or Veterans Services. Because graduates are eligible to become qualified as Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselors after completing this program, opportunities may also be available in community agencies and other institutions. All masters students are required to pass the Master's Comprehensive Exam. |
