The College of Education at Mississippi State University
is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher
Education (NCATE). The conceptual framework for the college is
illustrated by the image to the left. A description of the
model may be viewed by clicking here. The
conceptual framework for the College of Education has four levels: (a)
Teacher Education Basic Program [undergraduate majors for
professionals who plan to become k-12 classroom teachers ], (b) General
Basic Program [undergraduate majors for professionals who plan
non-teaching careers] (c) Teacher Education Advanced Program [graduate-degree
majors for professionals who are classroom teachers] , and (d) General
Advanced Program [graduate-degree majors for professionals who
plan to work in settings other than k-12 classroom teachers, such as
school psychology, educational leadership, educational psychology,
school counseling, higher education, etc.] The programs in Special Education include both undergraduate and graduate Teacher Education frameworks and the
department teaches a number of undergraduate and graduate courses for
teachers-in-training. All
other programs in the Department of Counseling, Educational
Psychology, and Special Education are general (non-teaching) in nature.
The departmental undergraduate majors are Educational Psychology and Special Education,
whereas graduate majors include Counselor Education, Educational
Psychology, and School Psychology. Of the five
Counselor Education concentration areas, the program in School
Counseling is most relevant to NCATE. Most graduate courses
utilize the College of
Education's General Advanced Program Conceptual Framework
Program Outcomes (CFPOs). |
